# Share by link

> Make a guide public or private and copy a share link.

Use a share link when viewers should open a guide in the browser. Links are the best default for sharing because edits stay live and [Insights](/analytics/overview) keep tracking.

## Copy a share link

    Select a guide from the dashboard.

  <Step title="Open Share" icon="share-2">
    Click **Share** from the guide page, or click **Done editing** from the editor and then open **Share**.

    Choose **Video** or **Step by step**. See [View modes](#view-modes).

  <Step title="Choose access" icon="lock-keyhole">
    Choose **Only you can view** or **Anyone with the link can view**.

    Click **Copy link** and send the URL where viewers need it. Use the arrow next to it to open
    the link in a new tab and check what viewers will see.

## View modes

| View mode | What viewers see | Use it when |
| - | - | - |
| Video | The guide player with narration and motion. | Viewers should watch the workflow from start to finish. |
| Step by step | Every step on one scrollable page, with its screenshot and narration. | Viewers want to skim, follow along at their own pace, or jump to one step. |

## Access options

| Access | Use it when |
| - | - |
| Only you can view | The guide is a draft or should stay private. |
| Anyone with the link can view | The guide is ready to share with viewers. |

## After you share

Existing links always open the latest version of the guide. If you edit the guide later, you do not need to send a new link.

Viewers see the guide in the view mode of the link they opened. Guide owners also see actions for editing, sharing, and opening [Insights](/analytics/overview).
